I would like to thank…

The Emmys, aka the Oscars of the small screen, took place in LA earlier this week. Now I am not one to stay up until the crack of dawn checking out all the red carpet glam, or lack thereof, but the red carpet arrivals of this particular ceremony caught my eye. Selecting a best dressed list is never an easy task, especially when there are aspects of a look that are superb and others that are mediocre. This year's Emmys were certainly a stylish affair, for both the girls and boys, and may spark some colourful new trends. So who wins my award for the best dressed?

The colour purple

I was at a wedding recently where the colour purple was a dominant shade of hat, dress, shoes, etc. Now I have never really been that much of a fan, but given that come autumn/winter, we are going to see 50 shades of it everywhere, I thought I would give it a chance. It needs to prove itself to me. It is definitely not the easiest colour to wear, I find it quite draining on my pale skin tone, but worn in splashes here and there can make it a very elegant hue indeed. The trick to wearing strong colours like purple is to break it up across your outfit. The colour should complement your look and not overwhelm you. To help you with planning your purple adventure, here are some of my top tips.

All about the clash

image preview

This season has so many trends going for it that I can safely say it is hard to keep up. And coming from me, that's a pretty serious matter. One trend that has completely dominated this year is the clash. No, not the British band of the 1980s — prints, colour, and textures can be mixed and matched and there are no rules. You can literally wear what you like with whatever you like. The best place to start with the clash, is prints; florals in particular.
